Yup the rumors are true. Long Treks on Skate Decks is planning its second trip to Morocco. The skate team will consist of Adam Colton, Aaron Enevoldsen and I, and the logistical team is made up of 7 others. I am super excited to be filming on the road once again. This trip will have us skating a loop around Morocco. We will contest with searing hot desert, 2000 meter mountain passes and the language situation will be far more difficult then any of our previous adventures combined. To fund raise for the event we are going to be holding a Gala event in Calgary at the Hillhust community centre on Friday, 19 of March at 19:00 for more information check out the gala's facebook page.
In related news, I've proposed to Rachael and we will be getting married in Marrakech. Just after the skate trip is over. Things are going great!

Eating salads can be tough for some folk. To make things easier I am going to share my favorite salad dressing recipe. This recipe evolved from a simple and rather strong tasting hemp oil and braggs dressing I made back in the day to eat with avocados. The new version is super tasty and exceptionally good for you.
3 parts Vega EFA oil blend (click here to purchase, can be subsituted by hemp oil)
1 part freshly squeezed lime
6 parts apple cider vinegar
3 parts braggs (vary by taste and type of salad)
and a half part of agave nectar to give it a hint of sweetness

Rachael and I have been collecting Pledges for the 4th Annual Final Push Event. Push for the Cure is an organization that uses longboarding to promote breast cancer awareness and to raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation. The founders of Push for the Cure skateboarded from Halifax to Vancouver, Ocean to Ocean for this cause and they managed to raise nearly $900,000!!
Every year longboarders collect in hope to participate in what was the final leg of the original trip. From hope the group skates to Vancouver over three days followed by a convoy of support vehicles. This is a great event supporting a great cause and it's also an excellent way to try out distance skateboarding.

I have been featured on Alberta Prime Time's 'Extreme Alberta' segment this week. The segment displays footage taken from South America, the the weekend of the rogue race, and a few interviews taken in Calgary and Edmonton. King of the Forest and I have quite the history, Three years ago it was the first real distance race I had ever done. I had little money to afford a plane or bus ticket so I skated most of the way from Calgary to Vancouver. That was to be my first skate touring trip aswell. I did extremely well Taking third place losing to Robin McGuirk. The following year I returned looking to beat Robskey and during the halfway point I fell. From there it was a struggle to maintain top 3. I still managaed to cross the finish line mere seconds behind Robin, First place was taken by David Mitchel. It was Robins first recorded defeat.
This year I returned once again on a better board and with better fitness. Although the ammount of competitors had nearly doubled to 81 racers. Robin was not in attendance but the Powerhouse David Mitchel was. I Sprinted hard off the line and I found myself battling with Patrick Switzer a fellow relocated Ontarian. Ultimately Switzer faded and I somehow had managed a huge spread from David. With much releif I won the title King of the forest 45 seconds ahead of 2nd place. This has been the hardest race for me to win, taking me three years to earn the crown. I'm ecstatic.
My time was 38 minutes, Other mention goes to Rachael who earned herself third place in the womens category and My team-mate Briane Davis earned the title Queen of the Forest!
Many thanks go to Graham and Andrew of Rayne Longboads for the gear and for allowing me a place to relax during the weekend of the event. Also thanks goes to My wife Rachael for helping me get to the race and Patrick Switzer for making me really work hard during the first half. Last but not least, a huge thanks to the cast over at UNKLE for throwing the event together!

Aaron Enevoldsen and I hitchhiked to Edmonton to film the Highlevel and to Compete in the ROGUE race. I was the defending ROGUE champion so the pressure was on for me to perform. We arrived a few days early and I built up my new custom RAYNE Demonseed for the race.
Highlevel downhill was a lot of fun to watch and film, Riley Harris was charging the course while most were simply warming up but he was overtaken in semi finals by another Calgary local George MacKenzie. George ended up winning and it was a Calgary podium! Its great to see these younger riders progress.
The ROGUE race was crazy. 117 other racers, and with all the media attention I had around this race I really felt I had to podium. As the start horn bellowed I sprinted off infront of the main body to keep from bumping into other racers. I managed to gain distance on the first grueling climb and on the first fast technical decent. I was worried the others would catch me so I kept pushing myself. By the end of the race I had bested my time by 2 minutes and I was 3 minutes ahead of 2nd place!
3rd place went to Graham Buksa the owner of Rayne longboards, 4th place went to my best friend Aaron Enevoldsen. In the womens Category My sister in law Anna O'neill took 1st and my Wife Rachael got 3rd place!
After the race the organizers hold a myriad of little contests to help divide the prizes amongst different competitiors. I joined in on the nose manual competition and I won it, longest distance, and one footed to boot! After being teased by the announcer for being a show off and for taking all the large prizes I was awarded by an Easy Rider custom EVO by Landyachtz complete with wheels and trucks. I gave it to my wife. She had been eying the board all day.
I can't thank the organizers of the ROGUE and Highlevel downhill enough for the great events and all the support they give. The ROGUE race is the largest of its kind in Canada, it offers the the largest prize purse, and its the best organized event in the Genre of distance longboarding.

I've been chatting with Glen and Bez over at Darkspeed for quite some time regarding the ROGUE, High Level, and Paskapoo events we have here in Alberta. At the last Paskapoo They asked me if I'd like to test out some super lightweight and rather minimalist pucks to use for my distance races. Just over one week had gone by after accidentally leaving my slide gloves on top of a van during a 5 hour drive. (subsequently I ts safe to say I'll never see those gloves again).
I got a package in the mail. Perfect timing! I was very excited. They sent me three pairs of light pucks and one pair of their famous smooth sliding Darkspeed standard pucks that would act to replace my old ones. I grab a pair of light aero cycling gloves and made a wicked light pair of gloves. No longer will I have to choose between comfort and weight v.s. safety. at a 5th of the weight, they are perfect for my needs!
